Computing

(Level 3 Vocational – Available as equivalent to 1 A Level)

BTEC in Computing provides a broad investigation of the digital universe, preparing students for a technologically driven world. Students learn principles essential for innovation and problem solving through hands-on projects and academic studies. BTEC’s emphasis on real-world application prepares students for a variety of occupations, including software engineering and data analysis. With a focus on industry-relevant skills and regular assessment, BTEC in Computing prepares a new generation of tech workers to shape the future of computing and propel innovation forward.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop literacy, numeracy, technical and creative skills through the programme of study. You will additionally learn more specialist skills such as programming languages, software development, and cybersecurity.

What topics will I study?

Topics for both options are outlined below:

 Year 1:       You will study for the National Certificate

  • Unit 2 (Exam): Principle of computer systems
  • Unit 7 (Coursework): IT security and Encryption

Year 2 : You will progress to the National Extended Certificate.

  • Unit 1 (Exam): Principles of Computer science
  • Unit 15 (Coursework): Website development

Where does the course lead?

This course prepares students for subjects like IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science and a range of Software Engineering Degrees.

Alternatively, having built up a range of specialist knowledge and insight, students are better prepared to enter the world of employment in the IT sector.
