Sport (L2)

(Available as equivalent to 1 or 2 GCSEs)

This qualification is designed as an introduction to sport, it is delivered through a mixture of practical and theory lessons. In this course you will study units such as Practical Sport and Sports Leadership. This course is assessed through coursework with no formal examinations.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop your ability to work both independently and as part of a group in order to produce coursework.  You will also be assisted to improve your research skills as well as your overall IT and communication skills.

What topics will I study?

This course is available as both a Certificate (equiv. 1 GCSE) and Extended Certificate (equiv. 2 GCSEs). Topics for both options are outlined below:

Cambridge Technical Certificate

  • Unit 1: Practical Sport
  • Unit 2: Anatomy and Physiology for Sport

Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate

All above units, plus:

  • Unit 5: Development of Personal Fitness
  • Unit 9: Planning and Leading Sports Activities

Where does the course lead?

After completion, you may wish to continue your studies at Advanced Level with a Level 3 Vocational qualification in subjects such as Sport or Business; to do this you must achieve at least a Merit in this qualification.  Alternatively, you could take a Coaching qualification or look for employment in the sports industry.

This course is suitable for students who have not attained five grades 4-9 (or equivalent)
