During his time in senior leadership, he has played a key role in shaping the College’s strategic direction, supporting high standards in teaching and learning and strengthening the student experience.   A former student of Woking College, Nuweed’s appointment represents a particularly meaningful milestone. His personal connection to the College community runs deep, not only through his own educational journey but also through his family, with his four children having all studied at the College. This longstanding relationship reflects his strong commitment to the values and ethos that underpin Woking College.   Speaking about his appointment, Nuweed said: “It is a real honour and privilege to be leading Woking College, a place that has played such an important role in my life. I am immensely proud of what the College has achieved and excited about what we can accomplish together in the future.”   Looking ahead, Nuweed is focused on building on the College’s strong reputation for academic excellence and inclusive support. His priorities include ensuring that every student is able to achieve their full potential, continuing to invest in high-quality teaching and further strengthening the College’s role at the heart of the Woking community.   Woking College continues to be a leading sixth form provider in the region, with high demand for places and a strong track record of success.   The College is very oversubscribed and you are advised to apply early to ensure your place. Students will also develop an understanding of different games platforms.

- [Art & Design](https://woking.ac.uk/courses/vocational-courses/level-3-vocational-courses/art-design/): This course encourages students who are creative and innovative and enjoy working within a wide range of techniques. You will learn to work to realistic briefs that allow you to explore 2D and 3D disciplines. This course is purely coursework based. In the first year you will explore techniques in drawing, mixed media, photography, printmaking, design, 3D and painting; responding to personal artists and a range of workshops and themes. In the second year you will be able to specialise in combinations of design, fine art, illustration or multimedia leading to a personal identified project at the end of the course. The main purpose of the qualification is to prepare students who wish to progress to higher education in Art & Design or wish to enter a work placement in a creative industry. There will be professional elements to the course which will involve working with visiting artists and with our local gallery as well as trips to enrich learning. At the end of the year we celebrate all work in our end of year summer exhibition.

Particular emphasis is placed on the topics of forensic science, diseases and chemical analysis.

We will give you the opportunity to learn about traditional and contemporary processes.  You will learn key skills for the textile industry: including colour and surface pattern design, stitch and embellishment processes, and constructed and manipulated textiles. You will have the opportunity to make a garment and/ or learn how to create Fine Art textiles. You will be encouraged to explore personal interests whilst also referencing key designers and artists from group visits to exhibitions. Guest artists will host workshops to give a professional context to your work. At the end of the year our students exhibit their work in our summer Art and Design exhibition and enjoy their seeing their work in the annual college Fashion Show.

The course encourages you to explore ideas through a combination of studio based work and digital software. You will explore a variety of areas such as advertising, typography, branding, magazine design, illustration and packaging. You will be introduced to the subject through a range of induction projects that allow you to build your skills before following personal lines of inquiry. You can expect to be using a range of Adobe software, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, traditional media and a broad range of print processes. Digital workshops cater for those with no prior knowledge and allow for an extension of existing skills. A broad study of leading graphic designers, illustrators and artists will enrich and inspire your own creative practice, allowing for the development of a unique visual language. As part of the Graphic Design course there is an emphasis on how designers work – pitching and presenting to external clients, working to a specification and managing the delivery of final outcomes; you will be presented with opportunities to explore this process through live projects and competitions. We celebrate all work in our end of year summer exhibition.

Topics covered draw on everything from the ideas of Newton and Einstein to contemporary theories of particles and astrophysics. Anyone with strong maths skills and an interest in how and why things work will enjoy this subject.

- [Chemistry](https://woking.ac.uk/courses/full-time-a-levels/science/chemistry/): This stimulating and exciting course follows on from the AQA Sciences that many students study at GCSE. Our objective is to ensure that learning is enjoyable and enhances your enthusiasm for this fascinating subject. Topics studied include atomic structure, equations, bonding, the periodic table, energetics, equilibria, and some organic chemistry. We incorporate a good deal of practical work into the course; which fits in well with the new A Level changes, which replace ISA exams with classroom practicals. There is a big emphasis on problem solving, both mathematical and written word.

You will gain an understanding of the basics of the physics of sound, the history of recorded music and the history of the equipment involved, as well as how to set up multi-track recordings and use hardware and software creatively to fulfil the coursework tasks. In the second year, your study of the subject will include developing your ability to listen, analyse and carry out production tasks while completing two practical coursework projects using the skills you have learnt in the first year.
- [Music](https://woking.ac.uk/courses/full-time-a-levels/performing-arts/music/): The first year of this course involves solo and ensemble performances, composition and a final written exam based on listening and the analysis of music studied throughout the year. During the second year, you will continue with solo and ensemble performances in an 8 minute recital and study composition and compositional techniques. There is a final written exam based on more in-depth and academic analysis and listening. Many students study both Music and Music Technology as the courses are very different in content.

You will analyse and evaluate performances, texts, and your own practice. Studying a range of theatrical practitioners will help you apply their theories to your own practical work. Studying Religious Studies has an ever-increasing relevance to the modern world. Students have the opportunity to examine conflicting viewpoints such as whether science and religion can agree on, for example, evolution and the afterlife, as well as religion and ethical issues such as euthanasia and the environment. In the second year, students will build upon content, ideas and skills to tackle difficult and complex philosophical issues.

In Research Methods, you will learn how to plan and carry out psychological research. Biopsychology will teach you how biological structures, such as the nervous system and the brain, influence how we think, feel and behave. Developmental Psychology focuses on what children think and understand about the world, and why this becomes more sophisticated with age. Cognitive Psychology covers how we remember things and why we forget. You will learn about phobias, OCD and depression in Psychopathology. Social Psychology will teach you why we obey those in authority and how performance is influenced by the presence of an audience. Along with these core units, we also study the applied areas of Schizophrenia, Cognitive Development and Forensic Psychology.

Whether or not you welcome those changes, such as the rise of progressive nationalism with the SNP in Scotland and Plaid Cymru in Wales, the rise of populist right-wing movements such as UKIP and the Brexit Party in the UK and Trump’s brand of Republicanism in the USA, they are a matter of fact and A-level politics is about studying those changes.
