Information Technology (L2)

IT is at the heart of everyday life, at home, work and in our leisure time from computer graphics and control systems to communications and problem-solving. This course will help you achieve a level of digital literacy to be prepared for the digital workforce and/or to pursue an advanced level programme in IT. Students will also develop their communication and organisation skills. Your grade will be based on coursework with no formal examinations.
What skills will I develop?
You will develop your literacy, numeracy, technical and creative skills by:
- taking part in professional discussions

- verbal and visual presentation
- expanding essential knowledge & transferable skills
You will expand essential knowledge and improve your transferrable skills.

This course is available as both an Award (equiv. 1 GCSE) and Extended Certificate (equiv. 2 GCSEs). Topics for both options are outlined below:

Where does the course lead?
Passing this Award, the equivalent of 1 GCSE with a Merit or higher, will fully prepare the student for study at A Level or entry-level employment in IT.
Passing this Certificate, the equivalent of 2 GCSEs, with a Merit or higher, will fully prepare the student for study at A Level or entry-level employment in IT.
Assessment and Exams
Assessment for units 8, 17 are assessed by assignments and set coursework and you will complete these to the expected grading of pass, merit & distinction to achieve your overall grade, where information will be added through work supplied by your subject tutor and through research skills.
Exams
- Unit 1 is a multiple-choice on-screen assessment,
- Unit 2 is a long answer on screen assessment.
Both exams will take place in January.
