4 or more grades 4-9.
Additional entry requirement: Grade 4+ in a numerate subject.

A literate subject includes any GCSE English qualification or any other GCSE essay-based subject, such as History, Geography or Sociology (these are not exclusive).
A numerate subject includes GCSE Maths or ANY GCSE Science course. If students are doing double Science, then just one of the grades being at 4 will be sufficient.
A GCSE grade of 4 and above in the relevant subject will supersede either of the above criteria.

Digital Games Production
(Equivalent to 1 A Level)
The computer games industry has become one of the fastest growing forms of media entertainment. Global sales of game software exceed £10 billion annually. This course is designed to introduce to students how computer games and interactive products are designed, developed and produced. This vocational course will provide the students with the opportunity to develop their own ideas and the know-how of what goes into the making of an exciting and playable computer game. Students will also develop an understanding of different games platforms.
What skills will I develop?
You will develop skills relevant to the Media industry, including planning and resourcing requirements for production and post-production, locating resources and organising their deployment, and improving communication skills.
You will develop specialist skills in game design, such as basic principles, designing, testing and evaluating for both 2D and 3D games.
What topics will I study?
BTEC National Extended Certificate
Two compulsory units:
- Unit 3: Digital Media Skills
- Unit 13: Digital Games Production
Then, three additional units in the second year:
- Unit 40: 3D Modelling
- Unit 41: 3D Environments
- Unit 42: Games Testing
Where does the course lead?
The course provides a good preparation if learners are considering an apprenticeship in the creative and design route. As well as direct entry to employment, this qualification will prepare learners for higher study of a specialist degree, such as Bachelors degrees in Digital Art, Games Design, Animation and Multimedia Technology.
Career opportunities include Game Designer, Developer, or Reviewer, as well as careers in the media industry.
