Life is a Cabaret at Woking College

Cabaret comes alive at Woking College this week with a cast of over 30 students and a live band of 14.

Set in pre-Nazi Berlin, the show magnificently highlights the transition from the fun loving decadence of pre-war Berlin to the sinister uprising of Nazism and anti-Semitism.

Directed by Head of Performing Arts Claire Nevers with choreography by Alicia Frost and musical direction by Anna Power, the musical provides a powerful political message about the uprising of extreme politics.

The musical focuses on the nightlife and loves of the performers at the seedy Kit-Kat Klub orchestrated by the Master of Ceremonies, played by Jack Harrison Holt. The storyline follows the English Cabaret star Sally Bowles (played by Rhiannon Drane) and the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw.

Widely performed in the West End, the production feature songs such as Tomorrow Belongs to Me, Willkommen and the iconic Cabaret with a truly shocking last scene the seeds of Nazi supremacy and bigotry of the Second World War are sealed.

Jack Harrison-Holt playing the master of Ceremonies commented. “The role is hugely challenging and has given me the opportunity to really push the boundaries of musical theatre”. Jack hopes to go on to drama school after Woking College.

Claire Nevers, Head of Performing Arts and Director of Cabaret, congratulated the students on “their dedication and hard work to undertake such a challenging and professional production after only 11 rehearsals”.
