Careers

Our Careers Department is run by friendly, highly experienced staff, offering expert advice, information and guidance relating to every aspect of progression from college. We are dedicated to helping every student maximise their potential.

During term time students have access to our well-resourced office and we run events throughout the year to introduce students to the variety of opportunities available. This includes our highly regarded Careers Conferences where students can attend a variety of talks from university speakers on admission, personal statement writing and courses, as well as employers regarding their apprenticeship and college leaver schemes. Our annual Careers fair has exhibitors from over 90 universities and companies. We also have contacts and partnerships with local and international organisations that come to Woking College to engage with students through employability skills workshops.

We encourage all students to consider university study and the majority of our students go on to higher education. We provide support to students in choosing universities, help with personal statements, information on open days, and mock interviews. We check each UCAS form individually with students and have systems in place for the whole application process.

Students are put in touch with staff who provide specialised help, including guidance for medicine applications and help with portfolio and audition preparation for arts and music colleges. The Careers Department also updates students about university summer schools, taster sessions and programmes designed to widen participation in higher education. Students considering entrance to highly competitive universities are offered a tailored programme of events, visits and advice.

Whilst we strongly encourage students to consider higher education, we make students aware of all post-college options, so they can make the right choices for them. This includes providing information on higher and degree-level apprenticeships, college leaver schemes and other programmes offering qualifications and paid employment. Every year we run a trip to the National Apprenticeship show.

Every student has access to work-related learning during their time at Woking College. Students have the chance to take part in work experience opportunities, workshops and have access to speakers from industry and commerce. We help with CV writing for part time and full time employment, mock job interviews, application checking and finding work, including advice on approaching employment agencies, using job sites and writing covering letters. A weekly careers bulletin is emailed to all students on their college e-mail.

Students are welcome to book appointments with us at any time; we offer a friendly and helpful service to all. We can be contacted on: careers@woking.ac.uk
