Law
The course covers the working of the English legal system and includes the courts and personnel, as well as the roles played by Parliament and other institutions in creating laws. It also includes a focus on morality and justice in the legal system. Modules include law making, contract law, the roles within the legal system and criminal law. This is an area of study new to most students, so no previous knowledge is necessary.
What skills will I develop?
- You will become a critical consumer of information and learn how to express your point of view in a clear and concise manner.
- You will improve your debating skills and develop the capacity to support a point of view with reference to evidence.
- Later units will allow you to develop independent legal research skills, including use of legal databases, journals and case material.
- Study skills and exam preparation will also be addressed.

Where does the course lead?
Whether you intend to pursue a career in law or have a passing interest, the pervasiveness of law means that it is a highly valued area of education for all careers. The discipline and approach developed during the study of law will prepare you for a large variety of occupations. These might include finance, commerce, journalism, politics, civil service, local government, business management, academia and of course, the law.
