Philosophy
This course will equip you with a thorough grounding in key philosophical concepts, themes, texts and techniques. You will learn how to use reason and logic, form your own judgments and express yourself clearly in debate. You will also develop the ability to analyse and assess philosophical writings . Philosophy equips you with transferable skills which can be applied successfully to many other subjects and life more generally.
What skills will I develop?
This course will not only give you a depth of knowledge about the subject content. but also provide you with the opportunity to develop the skills of clear & logical thinking and critical evaluation.
You will also develop skills in negotiating, organising, planning, problem solving and research.
What topics will I study?
Component 1 – Examination: Paper 1 (3 hours – 50%)
- Section A: Epistemology
- Section B: Philosophy of Religion
Component 2 – Examination: Paper 2 (3 hours – 50%)
- Section A: Ethics
- Section B: Philosophy of Mind
Where does the course lead?
Philosophy at degree level has everything that philosophy at A level has to offer, but with much more depth and achievement.
Philosophy graduates can expect a favorable response from big businesses and City firms, banks, management consultancies, and chartered accountants who appreciate the essential thinking skills acquired through the study of philosophy. Philosophy students also go into law, politics, the civil service, journalism, advertising and education.
