4 or more grades 4-9.

Additional entry requirement: Grade 4+ in a literate subject.

Please note:

A literate subject includes any GCSE English qualification or any other GCSE essay-based subject, such as History, Geography or Sociology (these are not exclusive).
A numerate subject includes GCSE Maths or ANY GCSE Science course. If students are doing double Science, then just one of the grades being at 4 will be sufficient.

A GCSE grade of 4 and above in the relevant subject will supersede either of the above criteria.

Uniformed Services

Equivalent to 1 A Level

This course is aimed at those students who wish to pursue a career in the Uniformed Services such as the Armed Forces, Police, Prison Service or Fire Service.  On this course you will learn how these various services are governed, as well as examining how they rely on effective teamwork and leadership in high pressure situations.  You will also be given to opportunity to take part in many of the different fitness tests undertaken by recruits of all of the Uniformed Services.  This is a practical course, which benefits from many different trips and visits to and from representatives of all the Uniformed Services.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop practical skills and understanding of a broad range of team-building, leadership techniques and outdoor expedition skills relevant to the different uniformed services.

You will develop confidence through your use of a range of communication, presentation and written techniques employed in individual and group projects.

Your fitness will be developed in order to help you pass required fitness tests as part of the entry process for all uniformed services.

What topics will I study?

NCFE Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Uniformed Services: (Year 12)

Unit 1- Preparing for a career in a chosen uniformed service

Unit 13- Emergency planning and response in the uniformed services.

Unit 18- Outdoor and adventurous expeditions.

NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Uniformed Services: (Year 13)

Unit 2- Develop aspects of physical fitness for entry to the uniformed services

Unit 3- Develop leadership skills

Unit 4- Equality, diversity & inclusion

Where does the course lead?

Learners on this course will usually pursue a career in one of the many Uniformed Public Services; Police, Fire & Rescue, Military or Paramedic.  This course will also allow the learner to achieve UCAS points which can then lead to studying courses such as Policing and Criminal Justice or Public Services at University
