This week, Woking College Theatre Company won the British Theatre Festival with their one act play Education, Education, Education! The play is set in 1997, the day after Tony Blair has won the general election and explores the impact of changing policies and funding on teachers and students in the U.K.
The finals took place in Harrogate and the talented students competed against plays from Ireland, Scotland and Wales, having already won the All England Festival in June. In heats across the U, K there were over 500 entrants to this prestigious competition. Woking College were the only Youth Group to compete in the final.
Directed by Claire Nevers and Gina Marshall, Claire, Head of Performing Arts commented “we have been incredibly proud of our student’s commitment, creativity and discipline throughout the whole process. They have been outstanding ambassadors for the College and performed to the highest standards. To be the only Youth Group at the final stages was a little daunting but they clearly rose to the challenge brilliantly”
Dan Cuckow who performed as Tobias in the production said” An absolute journey. I am so proud to have worked with such talented people and the experience displays the power that theatre brings to this world. Our determination to win really paid off”
