Over 100 students from Woking College performed to capacity audiences in an extravaganza of different musical styles at the two annual Evening of Note Concerts at the Colleges’ Beldam Theatre. From classical to jazz, rock and funk the students showcased their diverse talents at the College’s main music event of the year with a fashion showcase from Fashion & Textile students on the second night.
The first evening had a more classical and jazz tone with some new and innovative student arrangements and compositions. Music by such diverse composers as Corelli, Bach, Leonard Cohen and Earth Wind & Fire. A highlight of the show was the Percussion Ensemble directed by Arran Holcombe, Head of Music Tech, who wowed the audience with African Djembes and Boomwhackers playing “Eye of the Tiger” amongst other pieces.
The second evening turned up the volume with the Concert Band, Funk Band and College indie musicians interspersed with superb vocalists. Music by Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson, Ed Sheeran and Radiohead was interpreted by the talented students. A highlight was a vocal and guitar rendition of Hallelujah performed by second year student Rian Lynass.
Fashion & Textiles students also took to the catwalk as they displayed their own creations of colourful, bright and cutting edge outfits in a fast paced fashion show complete with DJ.
Head of Music Anna Power, who produced and directed the shows, said: “Students have been practicing extremely hard to present two fabulous nights of music, we have an extraordinary range of talented students who should be hugely proud of their efforts.”
